Medicine Buddha Mantra for Healing
One of my children had surgery a few weeks ago. The situation was fairly sudden and the surgery fairly extensive. We likely have a journey of months of healing going forward for a full recovery.
I composed the music for this traditional Buddhist mantra on the day of his surgery and made a simple the recording that afternoon, knowing that my son had a concerning medical situation but not knowing that he would undergo major surgery that same night!
This mantra has been like a life raft for me the last few days, playing in my mind ongoing as a reminder of a place of comfort, healing and peace.
The mantra itself is associated with a Buddha known as the Medicine Buddha. The meaning is "May the many sentient beings who are suffering be freed of all pain including disease, death and karma and may this suffering never arise again".
“Bekandze” means “the elimination of suffering” and is repeated three times for the removal of suffering on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels.
There are several different spellings and pronunciations for this mantra. I have chosen one that feels the most natural for me. I hope that others can use this as musical meditation for any situation or loved one that requires healing.
